The week-long dust-up between Fox News host Megyn Kelly and Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has settled down in recent days, but may play out again in January.
Fox News announced that the same cast of characters it used as moderators in last week’s debate — Kelly, along with “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier and “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace — will be on the lineup in January, when Fox News will host another debate, in Iowa.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
The trio’s pointed questioning of Republican front-runner Donald Trump at the Aug. 6 debate in Cleveland prompted harsh criticism from the candidate and his supporters. Trump’s attacks on Kelly on social media and in TV interviews became so heated, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes called and told him to cool it.
Whether Trump faces Kelly and company again in January will depend if his juggernaut candidacy is still going strong. FNC limited last week’s prime-time debate to the top 10 candidates in the national polls. No guidelines have been set for the next event.
“As we get closer to the January debate in Iowa, Fox News will announce the criteria for participation — which has not yet been determined — and invitations will be extended to all candidates who meet that criteria,” a Fox News representative said. “As Fox demonstrated last week, our goal with these debates is to be as inclusive as possible.”
Kelly’s abrupt announcement Wednesday that she would be embarking on a 10-day vacation prompted viewers to wonder if the attacks from Trump and his supporters had anything to do with it.
The network, however, says the vacation had been scheduled for some time.
Other GOP presidential debates currently scheduled:
Sept. 16, hosted by CNN at Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California
Oct. 28, hosted by CNBC at the University of Colorado in Bolder
November, hosted by the Fox Business Channel and The Wall Street Journal in Wisconsin

During the days after the first Republican debate, Trump said that Kelly, and Wallace to a lesser extent, posed unfair questions to him. Kelly said she was only doing her job.
