Things got heated between Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., during a debate on whether or not to continue to federally fund Planned Parenthood in light of videos showing the organization engaging in the sale of baby parts.
The exchange, as seen in the CSPAN video, occurred as Lankford told the story of a friend who had a premature baby that now, one year later, is healthy and doing well. Boxer, apparently, could not sit silent for some man daring to tell her about abortion.
“I’d really rather work with you on transportation,” Boxer said dismissively, “You know, I gave birth to two premature kids and I just don’t like lectures by men about what it’s like. And thank God, they made it. I’m pro-choice, and I just have to say using pregnancy as a political football doesn’t sit well with the people I represent and the people of this country.”
Lankford shot back, getting in the face of Democrats who believe abortion only involves a woman.
“I’m a dad of two daughters,” Lankford retorted. “I had something to do with the birth as well.”
Touché.
