Cruz fires back at Romney

mitt-tedReal estate mogul Donald Trump isn’t the only blunt, plain-spoken Republican running for the White House. So is Sen. Ted Cruz.

Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, took issue with the Texas Republican’s claim that the Obama administration would become the “leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism” if the Iran nuclear deal were to come to fruition in its current form.

The former Massachusetts governor tweeted Thursday:

Rather than answer Romney on social media, Cruz chose talk radio to fire back.

In a Thursday appearance on KFYO radio’s “The Chad Hast Show” out of Lubbock, Texas, Cruz observed that “one of the reasons Republicans keep getting clobbered is that we have leaders like Mitt Romney or like Jeb Bush who are afraid to say that.”

He predicted that much of the more than $100 billion to be released to Iran under the deal’s terms would end up in the hands of radial Islamic groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Yemen’s Houthis.

“When you send billions of dollars to jihadists trying to kill Americans, you bear responsibility for the murder they carry out with the money you have given them” Cruz told the program host.

“One, if it goes through, hundreds of billions of dollars will flow to Iran that they will use to fund radical Islamic terrorism to murder Americans,” Cruz said.

“Two, because it leaves four American hostages languishing in Iran. The last president to leave hostages in Iran was Jimmy Carter, [and] that appeasement profoundly weakened America.

But three, this deal accelerates Iran’s acquiring nuclear weapons, and they have pledged to use those nuclear weapons.”
