Ted Cruz has doubled down on his Senate speech calling Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a liar.
After the 2016 Republican presidential candidate’s passionate speech, in which he said McConnell had promised not to reauthorize the Import-Export Bank and then broke that promise, Cruz appeared on the syndicated Mark Levin radio show to hammer home the points he’d made.
He said his staff warned him that McConnell lied and they were right.
“Mitch McConnell, in May, had explicitly looked me in the eyes, and looked every Republican senator in the eyes, and had promised that he had not cut a deal to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank,” Cruz told Levin.
Cruz said that having McConnell, a Republican, as Senate majority leader is essentially the same as having Democrat Harry Reid.
“It’s one party,” he said. “It’s the McConnell-Reid leadership team, and they fight for the same priorities,” he said.
