Kerry gets GRILLED on Capitol Hill: ‘You … have been bamboozled!’

In the wake of the Iran nuclear arms agreement, universally despised by almost everyone outside the Obama administration, White House officials faced angry GOP members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Thursday.

Secretary of State John Kerry, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew were all roundly criticized during the public hearing on the deal that would lift sanctions on Iran — with Kerry taking the brunt of the senators’ wrath, according to The Hill.

“Not unlike a hotel guest that leaves only with a hotel bathrobe on its back, I believe you’ve been fleeced,” Sen. Bob Corker, committee chairman said, after noting that Iran will be able to acquire nuclear weaponry by merely abiding by the deal’s terms.

“In the process of being fleeced, you have turned Iran from being a pariah to Congress being a pariah,” the Tennessee Republican told Kerry, who was himself Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, from 2009 to his appointment as secretary of state.

Corker wasn’t the lone Senate Republican voicing his criticism.

“With all due respect, you guys have been bamboozled, and the American people are going to pay for that,” said Sen. James E. Risch of Idaho. He added that the inspection terms, which gives Iran 24 days notice before inspections, were so flawed that “even the NFL wouldn’t go along with this!”

“Anyone who believes this is a good deal really joins the ranks of the most naive people on the face of the earth,” Risch added.

Most Democratic committee members either favored the agreement or were non-committal — Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey was the exception, stating that the agreement “fails to appreciate Iran’s history of deception,” and at another point getting into a heated exchange with Kerry.
