It was the art of the interview.
Donald Trump let CNN’s Anderson Cooper know exactly what he thought of him and the mainstream media after becoming more than just a little agitated with the liberal news anchor’s line of questioning.
“Let me tell you, the people don’t trust you, and the people don’t trust the media,” Trump said flatly during an interview on Wednesday.
Cooper had cited an unflattering poll, which set off the billionaire contender for the Republican presidential nomination.
“You start off the interview with a poll I didn’t even know existed,” Trump said, and accused Cooper of “focusing on the negative.”
Trump used the opportunity to his advantage, and began to list the polls where he is leading.
“I am leading across the board,” Trump said. “And then you hit me with this poll that I didn’t even see before?”
Without letting Cooper get in a word, Trump explained how the media’s coverage of him has changed since he entered the political arena. With a public past going back more than a quarter of a century, including well-publicized marriages and divorces, bankruptcies and recoveries, television (“The Apprentice”) and books (“The Art of the Deal” among others) he’s got the experience to know.
“I’ve always been covered fairly accurately because it was a financial press,” Trump explained. “But I find that 60 to 70 percent of the political media is really, really dishonest.”
