In what has been described as a “class act,” legendary Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning made an appearance at the Naval Marine Corps Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where a lone gunman shot and killed four Marines Thursday.
A fifth serviceman, a Navy sailor, died Saturday of his wounds.
What’s the connection? Manning attended and played football for the University of Tennessee, according to local NBC affiliate WRCB News channel 3.
The press didn’t become aware of the surprise visit until Chattanooga Police officers posted photos on social media. It didn’t go unnoticed that the act of support was more than President Obama could muster. One tweet put it concisely: “Yep . . . done more than Obama so far…”
