Undercover video depicting a Planned Parenthood physician discussing the price of fetus body parts while swilling chianti and popping canapés into her mouth has spurred House Republican leaders into calling for hearings on the practices of the nation’s largest abortion provider.
One House committee has already begun investigations.
“When an organization monetizes an unborn child — and with the cavalier attitude portrayed in this horrific video — we must all act,” House Speaker John Boehner said.
“As a start, I have asked our relevant committees to look into this matter. I am also calling on President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell to denounce, and stop, these gruesome practices,” the Ohio Republican added.

Also on Wednesday, the GOP leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee announced its own investigation of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, noting in a statement that the “sale of fetal body parts for profit is illegal.”
“This video is abhorrent and rips at the heart. The committee will get to the bottom of this appalling situation,” the GOP committee leaders said in a statement.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy also called for an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practices in light of the undercover video. The California Republican tweeted:

The buying or selling human body parts is a felony under federal law, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $500,000.
