Teen cuts lawn with scissors for getting ‘lippy’ with dad: Good parenting?

One father is earning big props on social media for the creative punishment he doled out to his back-talking teen.

But not everyone is on board.

A picture of the offending teenager cutting grass with a pair of scissors was posted to Reddit with the caption:

“My brother cutting the lawn with a pair of scissors after getting lippy with my dad.”

The pictured teen is seen hunched over on the lawn seemingly intent on getting the job done.

There were no specifics on how long the boy had to scissor-cut the lawn, or how much he had to trim, but the inventive punishment earned “dad” a lot of approval on social media.

“Tell your dad thanks – I’ll be using this when my son is a teenager,” one Reddit user wrote.

“This is a man that knows what he’s doing,” wrote another.

Others found the punishment amusing, and even offered their hypothesis.

“Get lippy with the dad then you gonna get snippy with the lawn,” wrote an observer on Imgur.

“I’m going to guess your dad is in the military,” wrote Eggselent.

And… “I see a toothbrush and a filthy bathroom floor in his future,” another speculated.

But not everyone was amused with dad’s use of a tedious chore as a punishment.

“IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE: He can’t discipline his son without bringing his own personal insanity into everything. Your family is doomed,” wrote Shadowspace.

Another “disapprover” lamented over the issue of whether the punishment fit the crime, stating the reprimand would only be appropriate if the boy had, say, “broken the lawn mower.”

However, most viewed dad’s actions as justifiable without even knowing exactly what the teen had done to get into trouble in the first place.

And it seems this dad’s not the first to come up with the creative scolding.

“My dad punished me this way once,” someone responded. “I actually enjoyed cutting the lawn with scissors. I spelled out ‘ass’ in the front lawn. Got punished worse, but my dad went out and mowed the entire lawn so I’m claiming victory there.”

Some kids never learn.
