Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin is living proof of why elected officials should be required to pass a basic constitutional exam before being allowed to step into their taxpayer funded office.
Especially if they’re Democrats.
On a visit to MSNBC’s “Up with Steve Kornacki” to discuss the Supreme Court’s ruling on the right to same-sex marriage, Baldwin said she thinks the First Amendment protection of religious liberty applies only to “institutions of faith” – not to individuals. Being as the June 27 comments were made on MSNBC, they went mostly undetected until now.
Then Twitter picked them up.

“Certainly the First Amendment says that in institutions of faith, that there is absolute power to, you know, to observe deeply held religious beliefs,” Baldwin said.
“But I don’t think it extends far beyond that.”
Baldwin, the first open lesbian elected to the U.S. Senate, can’t seem to see past her own self interests.
She then addressed the Supreme Court ruling protecting religious business owners from having to provide abortion-inducing drugs to their employees.
“Should it be the individual pharmacist whose religious beliefs guides whether a prescription is filled?” she asked. “Or in this context, they’re talking about expanding this far beyond our churches and synagogues to businesses and individuals across this country.”
The senator’s unearthed comments prompted an uproar on social media from freedom-loving folks who are sick-to-death of tyrannical politicians misinterpreting the Constitution.

@tammybaldwin is wrong. Nothing in the Bill of Rights is about ‘institutional’ rights. It’s about Individual Rights. http://t.co/pPOzAlJyAi — John W. Wilson ن (@Expat_Patriot) July 7, 2015

And she wasn’t challenged on her statements until now. Scary indeed.
