Heated Confederate flag demonstrators nearly come to blows at SC State House; end up PRAYING together

Dueling demonstrations over the Confederate flag led to some tense moments, scuffles and at lease on arrest Monday night outside the South Carolina State House in Columbia.

As a small crowd gathered near the Confederate Memorial to protest the flag, about 15 vehicles – many sporting Confederate flags – circled the State House, The State newspaper reported.

Shouting matches and scuffling broke out, with officers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, University of South Carolina police and the Columbia Police Department keeping the two sides apart.

With the about 50 cops from three departments on hand — nearly one for every demonstrator from both sides — the situation remained under control.

The arrested man, who was confronting the flag protesters, was a 25-year-old from nearby Irmo, S.C., The State reported. He was charged with disorderly conduct.

As the evening wore on, demonstrators from both sides joined together in prayer.
