Conservative author and columnist, S.E. Cupp, offered a dire warning today for the Republicans Party – reject the Supreme Court ruling on the right to same-sex marriage at your own peril.
A very emotional Cupp hit the CNN airwaves with Wolf Blitzer to plead with the Republican Party that she says she loves.
“My party really has to reconcile with the fact that we are going to become relics if we don’t get to where these people are.”
Cupp was referring to the scores of gay rights activists who gathered in front of the Supreme Court to celebrate the historic ruling.
The 5 to 4 SCOTUS decision in favor of same-sex couples being allowed to marry in all 50 states is something Cupp has supported for a long time.
“Frankly, it’s… sorry,… hard to watch that and not get emotional,” she started.
Those people are not pariahs, they are patriots.
And wherever you stand on the politics of this issue, and I’ve long been in support of gay rights, it’s hard not to see these people as just wanting the human dignity that the rest of us have.”
Those people are Americans, and that is our future.”
Cupp said she hopes the ruling will change minds within the Republican Party, and maintained gay marriage activists don’t want to destroy the institution of marriage, but want to be a part of it.
“You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to embrace it, but you have to accept it,” she said.
Social media responded to Cupp’s emotional plea with mixed reactions:
