Critics demand firing of police union boss over his tough-talking letter to criminals and politicians

A tough-talking open letter from a Kentucky police union president to the public cops serve has liberals in an uproar, protesters protesting and local elected officials quivering.

And where it goes from here is going to tell us a lot.

The flap started last week when Louisville police Sgt. Dave Mutchler released a letter addressed to Louisville’s citizens, criminals and the “sensationalists, liars and race-baiters” leading criticism of cops across the country.

It was written after a Louisville police officer shot and killed an immigrant from Africa who was swinging a flag pole at him in a clear attempt to injure or kill the officer, but Mutchler has told the media it has been building for a while.

The whole letter is worth reading, but Mutchler didn’t mince words. After assuring the citizens of Louisville that their police take the job seriously, he issued a broadside to “the criminal element,” most particularly any who think the current atmosphere of anti-cop protests gives some kind of license to defy cops physically.

Most importantly, though, take note of the following: If you actively resist or assault us, we will use every option available to take you into custody. If you use deadly force against us or use or attempt to use a dangerous instrument or deadly weapon against us, we will use deadly force against you and we WILL stop the threat to us, our fellow officers or the citizens we serve.

Mutchler then hit the professional protesters and the media that enable them.

To the sensationalists, liars and race-baiters  … Now your rhetoric, lies and hate puts all of us, police officers and citizens alike, in danger. From now on we will call you out each and every time you tell a lie, twist the truth or otherwise engage in vile behavior meant to push your selfish agendas. If your behavior or untruths causes harm to us or the public, we will make every attempt to have you investigated, charged and prosecuted at the local, state or federal level. Your idiocy and lies are what caused the destruction in Ferguson and other cities around our country and we won’t be tolerating that here.

Naturally, the progressives didn’t take kindly to the blunt talk. And the elected officials in Louisville are in a dither, with the city’s Mayor Greg Fischer denouncing Mutchler’s letter and activists fanning the flames.

On Monday, about 100 protesters gathered outside the Louisville police department demanding Mutchler be fired for the letter.

What’s crazy is that it wasn’t so long ago that a letter like the one Mutchler wrote wasn’t even necessary – before the great lie behind the Ferguson riots of “hands up, don’t shoot” took hold, with the assistance of the president, his former attorney general and Al Sharpton, President Obama’s closest adviser on racial matters — and the greatest race-baiter of them all.

Where the Mutchler story goes from here will tell us a lot about where the “post-racial” presidency has taken the country.
