A Republican can’t win in the eyes of a radical progressive – no matter what.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s announcement Monday that she supports removing the Confederate flag from the state Capitol grounds was met with approval of many, but not all. Some liberals criticized the governor on social media for appearing “too pleased with herself.”
As far as progressives are concerned, apparently, if they aren’t prompting the removal of the flag, the intention is not genuine
Her announcement came after the massacre of nine innocent churchgoers in a historic black church last week and pictures sufaced of the suspected killer, Dylann Roof, carrying the Confederate flag.
Removing the flag would require two-thirds approval from the state’s General Assembly, but Haley’s announcement could be a key part of getting the process going.
But since she’s a Republican, don’t expect progressives to be happy about it.
Case in point, two prominent progs who thrive on division and apparently can’t bear a gesture of unity.
Show host and columnist Roland Martin and Joan Walsh, editor-at-large for the ultra-progressive Salon website, took to Twitter to showcase their disapproval of Haley’s actions – even though it’s an act both would surely have cheered if it came from a Democrat.
If South Carolina Gov. @nikkihaley is going to call for the #ConfederateFlag come down today, you can bet business leaders made that call!

Those who applaud Haley’s decision were ready to fight back.
@rolandsmartin @nikkihaley Don’t worry Roland. A Republican Governor is likely going to fix what a previous Dem governor did. — Highwayman (@PureMitten) June 22, 2015
@rolandsmartin @nikkihaley Do you want it down? Ok so why attack her motives with “business” crack. It’s just juvenile and not productive.

@Nick_Rizzuto @rolandsmartin @nikkihaley Awww it’s no fun when you have to explain it. — convoice (@convoice) June 22, 2015
Most were objective reports of Haley’s decision.

Very emotional moment as @GovHaleySC says Confederate flag is not the future of SC and should not be allowed “to divide us any longer.” — Jill Lawrence (@JillDLawrence) June 22, 2015
Haley on #flag: “The fact that it causes pain for so many is enough to remove it from the capitol grounds.”

But smug Walsh didn’t learn anything from Martin’s Twitter war and doubled down on the “Haley is not genuine” meme.
Nikki Haley is looking too pleased with herself + SC here. It took the assassination of nine African Americans to do the right thing — Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) June 22, 2015
@joanwalsh seriously. Let’s all fall all over ourselves that they’re taking the Confederate flag down…in 2015.
— Jeremy Thomas (@hey_itsthatguy) June 22, 2015
And it took a Republican governor to do it. Ouch, progs. Ouch.
@joanwalsh Wow I knew the haters on the left would find some kind of fault with what Haley did but you take the cake , looking too pleased ! — Chris Coon (@ChrisCoon4) June 23, 2015
@joanwalsh your opnion. The south again shows how civilized people live. Imagine if this happen in Baltimore.

A reference to the grand show of solidarity, love and strength by Charleston citizens – of all races – after the attack.
@joanwalsh there have been 6 democratic governors of SC since 1961. Not one of them had the courage to make this decision #NikkiHaley . — michelle (@slaweckihanlon) June 22, 2015
