GOT HIM! Massive manhunt ends with suspected cop killer’s arrest in the Big Easy

A massive manhunt that covered the city of New Orleans for the past 24 hours ended in success Sunday when a man suspected of killing a 20-year veteran of the Crescent City’s police force was arrested.

Officer Dayle Hoyle, 45 and a father of three, was shot Saturday morning after a man under arrest, Travis Boys, was somehow able to work his cuffed hands from his back to his front while being transported in a police vehicle and obtain a weapon, New Orleans police said.

A manhunt for Boys ensued, including officers wearing body armor and carrying high-powered rifles, going door-to-door in some cases, according to news reports.

“He will be caught and he will be brought to justice for the murder of Officer Holloway and for this assault on our entire community,” police Chief Michael Harrison vowed in a statement Saturday.

That vow was fulfilled Sunday.

A $10,000 reward was initially offered for information leading to the arrest of Boys by the New Orleans Crimestopper unit. This was later increased according to the department’s Twitter account:

Success: The New Orleans Police Department announced that Boys was arrested Sunday morning.
