Guns are easier to obtain than food, one liberal columnist says.
Huh?
Writing for News.Mic, Scott Bixby defended the left’s push for more restrictive gun control after the slaughter of nine people at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
It was his comments on Twitter, however, that really sparked an outrage.
While promoting his written defense of politicizing tragedies on behalf of advocates for additional gun control, Bixby made a claim that most gun owners found simply baffling:
It’s harder to get food in this country than it is to get a lethal weapon.

Unsurprisingly, anyone who has ever had to fill out a background check or comply with waiting periods had a different opinion.
After all, purchasing a gun requires slightly more red tape than using a self-checkout kiosk at the local supermarket.
@scottbix @seanmdav you fill out a Federal Background Check form every time you buy food? — Roger (@Roger247) June 18, 2015
@scottbix Spoken like someone who has never tried to buy a gun.

@scottbix Yea, just look right next to the pots & you’ll see steak knives. #BanUtensils? Jackass, shut it already.

@scottbix Tell me more about this aspect of food shopping I COMPLETELY missed for DECADES.

@paulyballgame @scottbix Domino’s will deliver guns to your house in 30 minute or guns free. — Tel Jonah Stern (@TellyStern) June 19, 2015
@scottbix yeah, all those “fast weapons” shops on every corner giving guns out for free… meanwhile you have to spend $100s on a burger!

@vT_Jay @scottbix Just went through the McDonald’s drive thru and surprisingly, they were out of McNuggets. I was able to pick up an AK tho. — MacroAggressor (@Inhalatanator) June 18, 2015
Burritos over 12 inches long should be banned as “High Capacity Burritos” @LilacSundayBlog @evangie @scottbix

Bixby defended his crazy statement by saying that some states require drug testing for anyone looking to take advantage of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – better known as “food stamps.”
Most users were unimpressed with his “logic.”
@scottbix @Roger247 @seanmdav So, you’re one of those guys who digs the hole deeper after you say something stupid. Great character trait.

@scottbix think it’s hard to qualify for SNAP? Try qualifying for supplemental weapon assistance. — Francisco Nieves (@snowterp91) June 18, 2015
.@scottbix Wait a minute: you can’t buy food in Florida unless you have food stamps? That seems like a big story. Write that up.
— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) June 18, 2015
@scottbix @Roger247 @seanmdav You’re conflating food assistance with food availability, for starters. Not that you care. — John Ekdahl (@JohnEkdahl) June 18, 2015
In his article Bixby hoped Americans would be capable of having a “discussion” about the availability of firearms. Judging by his comments on Twitter, he should probably begin with some basic education before lecturing everyone else about how to restrict Second Amendment rights.
@scottbix Um no, it most decidedly is not. If we’re going to have the discussion, at least let’s do it without inaccurate hyperbole.
