Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, especially on social media.
One of the most popular tweets after the capture of Dylann Roof, 21, the alleged Charleston church shooter, was a total lie, causing the tweeter to delete the tweet but only after it went viral.
“White privilege is murdering 9 people and then having the police give you a bullet proof vest but not handcuffs,” tweeted @PeterSHall.
Hillary blames Donald Trump for mass shooting at church; what, it’s not Bush’s fault?
The tweet was shared more than 22,000 times until Hall figured out, with the help (and by help I mean ridicule) of the Twiterverse, that Roof was cuffed and shackled.
Here is a sampling from Twitter:
WOW RT @PeterSHall: White privilege is murdering 9 people police give you a bullet proof vest but not handcuffs. pic.twitter.com/K76mjYu5Ss

@DeleMage @PeterSHall @SirStevieRogers that's someone else's arm behind him… He clearly has on handcuffs

Congratulation on all those retweets of your LIE @PeterSHall pic.twitter.com/YZTJyz4ZXu

.@PeterSHall how does it feel to push a false statement in an effort to further divide Americans already in pain? Great future for your kid.

@DWincl @PeterSHall His feet are also shackled.
— Benjamin Hoffman (@BenHoffmanNYT) June 18, 2015
Suspect was cuffed and I was wrong. Had to delete that handcuff tweet as RTs without reading following tweets were getting out of control.
— Peter S. Hall (@PeterSHall) June 19, 2015
Still Peter continued to hold on to his white privilege narrative.
Police find a black kid holding a fake gun and he gets shot. They come across an armed white guy, he gets escorted with a smile. Unreal.
— Peter S. Hall (@PeterSHall) June 18, 2015
Even if he does have cuffs on and it's only the vest, he's still doing better than, oh, Tamir Rice. Unbelievable.
— Peter S. Hall (@PeterSHall) June 18, 2015
@petershall That's your answer for a misleading post? I feel very sorry for you.

@PeterSHall It's common for cops *not* to shoot you when you don't resist or wave a gun at them.
— Arthur Kimes (@ComradeArthur) June 18, 2015
@PeterSHall You're complaining that the police didn't kill him? What.
— H S (@tph_hpt) June 18, 2015
@FilmLadd @AceofSpadesHQ @PeterSHall …and a belly chain, and leg irons. #NiceTry
— Entropy (@entropy156) June 18, 2015
@Dbright21 @PeterSHall he's embarrassing himself.
— Johnny Fallopian (@sliderblaze) June 19, 2015
@PeterSHall I mean, we can send a memo, but you need to make a decision.
— Jacob Ritter (@Mornscreek) June 18, 2015
@PeterSHall Not "if". Your tweet claiming he wasn't cuffed is a lie. You are now part of the problem.
— DougD (@o0Nighthawk0o) June 19, 2015
@PeterSHall move the goal post much?
