BUSTED! Suspected gunman arrested after manhunt in SC church massacre

Authorities on Thursday captured Dylann Storm Roof, suspected of being the gunman who massacred nine innocent churchgoers praying inside Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday, USA Today reported.

He was arrested in Shelby, N.C., according to USA Today:

Police said the suspect, from Columbia, S.C., had been sought in a black Hyundai with vehicle tag LGF330 and appealed to the public for any information on his whereabouts. Shelby, N.C., is 245 miles northwest of Charleston.

Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen held a press conference Thursday morning releasing what little details  authorities had about the mass shooting.

Victims included six females and three males, according to ABC news. Mullen said the shooter was “in the church about an hour before the actual events.”

Information regarding the victims will remain private until all family members are notified.  One victim, however, has been identified as Democrat state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, who also served as a pastor at the Emanuel AME.

Among the reported three survivors, one was a woman, and one a 5-year-old girl who escaped by playing dead.
