Michelle Obama’s visit to Venice during her Grand Tour 2015 vacation is costing taxpayers more twice what most Americans make in a year.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the Venice leg of the first lady’s overseas schedule will cost $128,781. She’ll be spending her time visiting “cultural sites,” a White House press office release states.

“Cultural sites” is press office-speak for being a tourist at taxpayers’ expense, but FLOTUS’s flacks want to make it clear it’s not going to be all fun and games in “the Floating City.”

Mrs. Obama — who is traveling with daughters Mahlia and Sasha and mother, Marian Robinson — will be making time for the troops too.

“As part of the Joining Forces initiative, Mrs. Obama will visit members of the military and their families stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza,” the press office states.

There’s no doubt the soldiers and their families are going to be overjoyed that the first lady is taking time out of her busy schedule touring the Grand Canal, the Venice Opera House or St. Mark’s Basilica – but more to the point, the visit gives Mrs. Obama an excuse to chalk the whole trip up to her taxpaying public.

With the mean American salary being a little more than $50,000 a year, most of her subjects will never be able to afford the kind of cash it costs for a Michelle Obama to enjoy the wonders of Venice – a trip that amounts to tip money on the White House balance books.

It’s good to be the queen.
