Carly Fiorina refuses to be a sucker on ‘The View’: Don’t underestimate me

Carly Fiorina has been scoring high marks lately for how she’s handled media interviews since announcing her run for president – and her appearance Tuesday on “The View” was just as impressive.

And on a show targeted to liberal women, and run by liberal women, that wasn’t easy.

Whoopi Goldberg kicked things off by pretty obviously trying to make Fiorina look the fool by equating her potential candidacy with a popular TV show.

“You said, if elected, you want to run your administration like American Idol,” Goldberg asked in the first series of loaded questions. “What does that mean exactly?”

But Fiorina wasn’t going to be the butt of Goldberg’s joke.

“I actually didn’t say that,” she said.

Fiorina clarified that she was referring to the use of technology to engage with the American people when she had made the American Idol reference – and quickly turned the discussion around.

“I’d ask the American people questions,” she said for example. “Do you think it’s OK that we have no idea where our money is being spent in the federal government?”

Fiorina continued to field questions loaded with accusations like a pro. She told hosts that her “lack of political” experience is actually an attractive trait to many Americans who are tired of political elites running the country.

When confronted with the fact that Fiorina’s polling numbers signal she won’t be able to participate in the first round of GOP presidential debates, Fiorina declined to play the victim card.

“I started as a secretary in a little nine-person real estate firm, and I’m kind of used to being under estimated,” she said.

“I’m sort of assuming I might make it to those first debates.”

That kind of can-do spirit is something most left-leaning “View” watchers aren’t normally used to, and Fiorina’s remarks prompted a round of actual applause.

No interview with “The View” would be complete without a discussion about feminism, and even then, Fiorina hit it out of the park.

“I believe that a feminist is any woman who lives the life she chooses,” Fiorina said.

Minds blown.
