Obama admits to world: ‘We don’t yet have a complete strategy’ on ISIS

It isn’t just our imagination. He really doesn’t have a plan.

President Obama said Monday that he and his administration still haven’t worked out a strategy for dealing with Islamic State extremists  nearly a year of the administration’s campaign against the terrorist group.

He made his statement during a news conference in Germany after a meeting at the G7 conference, according to The Washington Times.

“When a finalized plan is presented to me by the Pentagon, I will share it with the American people. We don’t yet have a complete strategy because it requires commitments on the party of the Iraqis, as well as about how recruitment takes place, how that training takes place,” he said. “The details of that are not worked out.”

The Times reported:

Mr. Obama’s comments came less an than hour after he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who vowed to continue the fight against the Islamic State but stressed that “the efforts of the international community” will be vital in destroying the group.

Mr. Obama conceded there have been key setbacks in the fight against the Islamic State, such as the militants’ capture of Ramadi last month.

Still, he maintained that the U.S. and its allies are making progress.

“We have made significant progress in pushing back ISIL from areas which they had occupied or disrupted local populations, but we’ve also seen areas like in Ramadi where they’re displaced in one place and then come back in another,” the president said.

“They’re nimble and they’re aggressive and they’re opportunistic, so one of the areas where we’re going to have to improve is the speed at which we train Iraqi forces.”

Obama seems to make a common mistake — confusing strategy and tactics.

Tactics are the “details to be worked out.” Those can change as circumstances change.

“Strategy” is determining what the overall goal is and the best method to achieve it. In a war, that generally means defeating the enemy by military force.

But this is a president who can’t even bring himself to admit that the enemy is Islamist terrorism.

It’s no wonder he doesn’t have a strategy to defeat it. And the American people shouldn’t hold their breath until he explains it to us.

The whole thing left people on social media scratching their heads, including the guy who ran against Obama in 2008.

He’s not going to have one any time soon.
