Woman who ran out on 30-mile cab fare sentenced to go the distance — every step of it

An Ohio woman who ran out on a cab fare after getting a 30-mile ride found out from a judge last week just how far a trip that was.

According to WOIO, ActionNews 19 in Cleveland, 18-year-old Victoria Bascom appeared before Lake County Judge Michael A. Cicconetti on Thursday for sentencing in the case of the missing fare.

Cicconetti, who the station said is known for his “creative” sentences, at first sentenced Bascom to 30 days in the county jail for theft of services, but gave the young woman the option of walking off the distance of the cab ride instead.

Bascom opted to take the walk instead of going to the slammer. She started walking Friday. She had 48 hours complete the distance, which was measured at 45 laps around the Lake County Fairgrounds.

Cincconetti also ordered Bascom to pay $100 restitution for the cab ride.
