Teacher under investigation for online jokes — and ‘Outnumbered’ is ON HER SIDE

An elementary school teacher is under investigation for sharing posts that are shared by millions on social media.

An unidentified teacher at Columbia Heights Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas, was reported by the parent of a student who will be attending the school next year for sharing “someecards” pictures on her Pinterest account that the parent found offensive.

One of the e-cards showed a grown woman speaking to a young boy, saying “Do you want to hear a secret? You’re the reason your teachers are alcoholics.”

Another read, “If teachers were honest with report card comments: Jimmy continues to be a (expletive). I would like him to stop being a (expletive).”

The absurdity of the situation got liberal Kirsten Powers and conservative Andrea Tantaros to agree with each other on Fox News’ “Outnumbered” Thursday.

“What is wrong with people?” Powers said. “I mean it’s like the speech police [are] everywhere. This person should be allowed to post things on their private page.”

Teacher Comments

“A teacher can’t make a joke?” Powers asked. “She should be allowed to have a private life. I don’t think that we should be investigating somebody for an opinion.”

Tantaros agreed.

“They can’t take a joke and I do think she was joking,” she said.

Adam Carolla said, as a comedian, it’s “stifling” and that he often decides not to send some joke tweets because of fear of the backlash.

Teachers Alcoholics

“I don’t know why we want to silence everybody,” Carolla said. “A lot of comedians have just shut up. We wouldn’t have wanted Lenny Bruce or Richard Pryor to shut up.”

While this situation is extreme the fact is that this is the type of society people invite when they want speech limited.

Yes, you may find a Muhammad drawing contest offensive, you may, like most people, despise what the Westboro Baptist Church does, or there may be a piece of art that rubs you the wrong way but the second you start to limit the speech of the most vile among us you open the door to having, as Kirsten Powers said, speech police.

What a scary and different America that would be.
