A Hooters waitress and a longtime customer will have a special relationship now, after the waitress gave the customer the gift of a lifetime.
Literally.
Mariana Villarreal, a waitress at the Roswell, Ga., Hooters donated a kidney to customer Don Thomas, who lost both of his to cancer.
The two both have experienced their share of pain recently as Thomas, a Vietnam veteran and father of two, lost his wife to breast cancer last year. Villarreal lost her grandmother, coincidentally, to kidney failure recently.
In an Instagram post the day of the surgery, Villarreal said her prayers were answered because she was able to help Thomas, who she said is affectionately referred to as “The Don” by Hooters staff.
“After 3 months of working there and knowing him God answered my prayer but most important answered his prayer of years! I’ve been praying for God to answer me if donating one of my kidneys was the right thing to do and The Don was praying for a donor that may have never appeared. He sent me to this world to serve him and others and as a daughter of God I offered him one of my kidneys,” she wrote.

“Around the same time I met him my grandmother was going through something similar but I wasn’t able to help her and it will forever be in my heart. My higher calling maybe wasn’t for my grandma but for a complete stranger,” she added. “If he can live 2 more year the happiest he’s ever been without having to sit in a room 3 times a week filtering his blood for 8 hours and finally have a full glass of water or finally get to pee again then go ahead take my kidney. I know God will give him way more years to come.”
On the day of the surgery she posted that the kidney was a perfect match and thanked God.
“I know God will watch over us for the rest of our lives and may the glory always be for the lord of lords!” she wrote on Instagram.

On Sunday she took to Instagram again and provided an exciting update on their conditions.
“Today Don used the bathroom by himself for the first time in 5 years! He was so proud of himself that he began to cry! Apparently we broke a record on how fast my kidney started working. As soon as they connected it he began to urinate on the operation table. In total he has done 20 gallons in less than one day,” Villarreal said.

“My incisions are starting to itch so that means they’re healing! Thank you all for your prayers of fast recovery. God has listen and he’s doing a great job! Thank you lord for giving me the opportunity to give life to someone you died for years ago. What you did for humanity inspired me the most!” she added.
There isn’t a tip in the world big enough for a waitress that provides service like that.
