An intimate moment between a U.S. Marine and his bride-to-be was captured in a powerful photograph that is now capturing the heart of a nation.
Just before Cpl. Caleb Earwood,21, and his fiancée Maggie,22, were to say their vows, they paused to say a prayer.
Photographer Dwayne Schmidt was there to seize the moment in a heartfelt picture that went viral over Memorial Day weekend.
“I have photographed a lot of weddings. This has to be one of the best things I have ever got to see, much less photograph,” Schmidt wrote in a Facebook post.
“Before the ceremony and before they saw each other Caleb said a prayer for their marriage and lives. AWESOME!!!”
The Dwayne Schmidt Photography Facebook post – and beautiful moment – has been liked nearly 45,000 times and has been shared across the world.
“When I first grabbed his hand, he was shaking really bad, so I knew he was really nervous,” Maggie told Today.com. “It relieved me to know the person I was getting ready to marry felt the same way about God.”
Earwood revealed his thoughts at the time the now-famous photo was taken.
“We were about to take our first steps in life together, and we didn’t want to take a step without it being in God’s will,” Earwood told Today.
“I prayed to God for my beautiful and intelligent wife that He blessed me with and the amazing family I was marrying into.”
The happy couple is spending their honeymoon in Tennessee, according to Today, and are thrilled the photograph touched so many around the country.
“We’re thankful that our picture is able to bless so many people and touch that many hearts,” Earwood said.
