In a scene that’s becoming all too common, another police officer was killed in what appeared to be an ambush-style shooting, this time a New Orleans Housing Authority cop.
The 45-year-old officer was killed Sunday while driving his squad car through a construction site in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood, according to local CBS affiliate WTVR channel 6 News, which reported:
The slain officer worked for the Housing Authority of New Orleans, which has its own police force.
City police say another housing authority police officer reported the shooting Sunday morning. New Orleans police officers found the 45-year-old officer dead inside his marked police vehicle.
“Tragedies that involve our men and women in uniform affect our entire city and touch every member of our law enforcement community,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a statement.
Social media users were outraged. Former cop and current police trainer David Smith tweeted:
Another damned cowardly ambush. Breaks my heart, nobody deserves to die alone. Rest easy, we’ll find the SOB… http://t.co/NPIphwDFOd
