Concealed weapon carrier RUINS carjacker’s day: ‘You woke up stupid this morning, huh?’

A would-be carjacker picked the wrong vehicle and the wrong victim in Georgia, and ended up staring down the barrel of a firearm held in the hands of the car’s owner.

“You went to bed and woke up stupid this morning, huh?” owner Hashim Fannin can be heard asking the thief on cell phone video captured by as witness.

The May 9 incident occurred after Fannin pulled in front of an Atlanta Family Dollar Store and put the car into “Park,” which automatically unlocked his doors. It was at that point that carjacker Edgar Horn, 61, slipped into the passenger seat, according to Atlanta’s WSB-TV Channel 2 News.

“He told me, ‘You know what this is,’” Fannin said.

That’s when Fannin drew his gun.

“I asked him to get out the car, probably not in those exact words,” Fannin said.

But that didn’t mean he was letting the carjacker off.

“I told him, ‘No, there’s no leaving. Leaving was before you hopped into my car … at this point there is no leaving,” Fannin continued.

He then directed Horn to lie face down on the pavement until police could arrive.

When the man claimed he wasn’t trying to rob Fannin, Fannin responded with biting sarcasm.

“You were not trying to rob me?”  Fannin said to the man on cellphone video of the incident.  “Do you just get into random people’s cars?… You thought I was your friend? …  So you woke up stupid this morning?”

WSB-YV reported:

When police arrived, you can see Fannin wave them over, and put his gun down.  The police officer shakes his hand before putting the suspect in handcuffs.

“Honestly, I look at it like this,” Fannin told the station. “That is one less guy I got to worry about bothering my mom when she’s out grocery shopping.”

This wasn’t Horn’s first encounter with the law. He was previously charged with attempted robbery. He faced another attempted robbery charge in court Friday for his unsuccessful carjacking attempt.

And this wasn’t Fannin’s first encounter with the criminal element. He chased down a man in 2011 who responded to a Craigslist ad who then tried to rob him.
