A West Virginia high school teacher had 50 shades of a bad idea.

Students at Hampshire High School asked their teacher if they could watch the raunchy film “50 Shades of Grey” as a reward for their hard work and the teacher, who had no idea what the film was about, acquiesced, according to the Charleston Daily Mail.

The movie was stopped after about 10 minutes.

“Fortunately, an assistant principal walked by and saw what they were doing,” school principal Jeff Woofter told the Mail. “They got there 10 minutes after it started and shut it down.”

“I will say it was an extreme lack of judgment from an otherwise very capable teacher,” Woofter added. “The teacher didn’t do a background check on the movie or even ask about it.”

The film has been bashed by critics as promoting abusive relationships and being demeaning to women.

Principal Woofter did not say if the teacher or students would face any disciplinary action.
