Liberal Fox News’ contributor Kirsten Powers was on the firing line from the left Monday over her new book — and there’s going to be a lot more to come.
Tellingly, Powers spent the day defending herself against the same tactics she outlines in“The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech.”
Despite the book’s positive reviews, Powers was met with contempt by fellow liberal writers who didn’t appreciate her expose of how progressives continually use race, religion, gender and personal “smoke and mirror” attacks to systematically shut down opposing views.
Conservatives have continually been calling out the left’s silencing of free speech to no avail. The idea of a self-proclaimed liberal calling them out is a huge “no-no.” Powers got a taste Monday of what is likely more to come.
Sad that @KirstenPowers is helping far-right sell an anti-intellectual “silencing” meme. http://t.co/gZOCmz9gQp

@goodasyou Jeremy why don’t you open your mind a little and consider my argument which is not partisan or ideological. Maybe read the book.
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) May 11, 2015
.@KirstenPowers oh, I absolutely plan to read your book. But I can still think your premise, as laid out in this piece, is broken
— Jeremy Hooper (@goodasyou) May 11, 2015
Excerpts of Powers’ book were carried in several publications, but the fact that conservative Heritage Foundation covered it was enough of an “argument” for some to try and discredit the book all together.
.@KirstenPowers and it’s not partisan or Ideological, but you just so happen to be writing for the Heritage Foundation’s website? Hmm.
— Jeremy Hooper (@goodasyou) May 11, 2015
@goodasyou It’s an excerpt and others will run at Daily Beast. what does that prove? you are doing exactly what the book talks about.
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) May 11, 2015
@KirstenPowers @goodasyou C’mon, Kirsten. You’re better than this…

Just a helpful reminder about freedom of speech and being “silenced.” cc: @KirstenPowers pic.twitter.com/KehwP22bRq

Powers did get support from some who aren’t normally on her side..
Though I often disagree w/ her, I’m a big fan of @KirstenPowers & the message of her new book (buy it) is important: http://t.co/YTkeDlIyhg

But it was nothing compared to the wrath of the “gay left community” incensed over the book’s mention of Mozilla co-founder Brendan Eich and his $1,000 donation to California’s “Yes on 8” campaign. Eich was famously forced to step down from his CEO position after a boycott was organized against him for his opposition to same-sex marriage.
Have to say the vitriol i’m getting from gay left is pretty crazy considering how supportive i am of gay rights and SSM.
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) May 11, 2015
.@ZackFord Lol. Workers demanding their CEO resign over his beliefs is not Free Market influence. @goodasyou @gaywonk @KirstenPowers
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) May 11, 2015
.@KirstenPowers The problem is it sounds like you’re justifying others’ opposition to gay rights. Can you at least appreciate that concern?
— Zack Ford (@ZackFord) May 11, 2015
I am not justifying opposition to gay rights. I am arguing for persuasion and debate instead of coercion & mob rule https://t.co/kp7IxZzgHF
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) May 11, 2015
@KirstenPowers Sometimes only the educated MOB can win over the TeaTards and Neo-Nazis of this world
— RojerAils (@RojerAils) May 11, 2015
It doesn’t look like Powers will be backing down any time soon.
Thanks for proving my point. You think you are the ‘educated’ one …. interesting. https://t.co/C9N1C9tGaQ
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) May 11, 2015
@KirstenPowers Really? You find it crazy? I find it totally and absolutely predictable. 100% expected.
— Matt O’Brien (@Mattfobrien) May 11, 2015
Sadly, Powers had better get used to it.
