Judge Jeanine shreds libs on Texas attack: ‘They want to re-think the First Amendment?’

Judge Jeanine Pirro on Saturday joined the army of voices attacking politicians and pundits trying to “blame the victim” of a terror strike by two Islamic terrorists against Pamela Geller’s “Draw Muhammad” contest in Garland, Texas.

On Fox News’ “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” Pirro said, “Free speech in America is non-negotiable. No matter what the perceived consequences, no matter the worry about retribution from Islamic extremists, period, end of the story.”

She stated that popular speech is not what needs protection. Protecting speech perceived by some as offensive is the very purpose of the First Amendment, she said.

Pirro cited the examples of the Westboro Baptist Church protesting the funerals of soldiers, burning the flag and burning a cross as protected speech even though she finds those activities “disgusting and repulsive.”

She blasted “liberal apologists who believe in free speech unless they don’t” for hypocrisy when it comes to protecting Islam.

“Where were they when another taxpayer-funded project showed Mother Mary surrounded by pornography and elephant dung? Now they want to re-think the First Amendment? Now they don’t want to offend Muslims?” she asked.

“We need to stop blaming the victim, and start killing the murderers,” she said. “You don’t protect the batterer or the abuser by telling the victim, ‘don’t get him upset, don’t provoke him, and you’ll be all right.’ Since when are we willing to surrender our Constitution to keep peace with those hell-bent on killing us, anyway?”

Pirro said while she thinks Geller’s event was a “dumb move,” she did succeed in making America aware of the threat it faces of losing First Amendment protection.

“She [Pamela Geller] did something that critics may not have thought about,” she said. “She opened our eyes and teed up the discussion about whether free speech in America survives the pushback from Sharia Law.”
