Attorney General Loretta Lynch has launched a federal civil rights investigation of the Baltimore police department.
Lynch announced the decision Friday, saying the DOJ will probe the Baltimore police department practices for violations, Fox News reported.
“This investigation will begin immediately and will focus on allegations that Baltimore Police Department officers used excessive force including deadly force, conduct unlawful searches, seizures, and arrests, and engage in discriminatory policing,” she said.
Despite having a black mayor, a black police commissioner and a black State Attorney, Lynch apparently feels the need to launch an appeasement investigation like her predecessor Eric Holder was famous for.
“Our goal is to work with the community, public officials, and law enforcement alike to create a stronger, better Baltimore,” she said.
Lynch said the investigation will focus on finding out if the department violated citizens’ constitutional rights.
“Rather than examining whether the police department violated good policies, we will examine if they violated the constitution and the community’s civil rights,” Lynch said.
The response from Twitter users was strong and swift.
