CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin found herself in hot water and sputtering Tuesday after suggesting during an interview that American war veterans now serving as police officers are partly to blame for the riots that swept through Baltimore this week.
Baldwin made the inexplicable suggestion Tuesday while interviewing controversial Democrat Rep. Elijiah Cummings, who went right along with her.
Cummings was giving his usual schtick of blaming the police telling Baldwin, “We’ve really got to look at our police department,” in light of the rioting.
“But in what sense?” Baldwin asked. “We talk about training, we talk about having officers, I was talking to the city councilman here last week. He said, ‘Brooke, these people have to live in the communities, or there’s a lack of emotional investment.’
“And a lot of these young people, I’ve been talking about this so much. A lot of young people, and I love our nation’s veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they don’t know the communities, and they are ready to do battle,” she said.
Outrage! Judge hammers white victims of armed home invasion for racism, lets criminal go free.
When a firestorm erupted over the remarks, Baldwin took to Twitter to try to offer an excuse.
“Folks. Please don’t misunderstand me. Dear friends/family of mine are veterans. I was repeating a concern vocalized to me lately. That’s it.,” she wrote.
Oh? Maybe Baldwin’s very clear words were just misunderstood, like Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was misunderstood when she said — very clearly — the city gave demonstrators “space to destroy.”.
Or perhaps liberals need to start thinking before they speak.
Unfortunately for Baldwin, the Twitterverse wasn’t buying her explanation, with one tweeter even calling her “pathetic and sad.”
Folks. Please don’t misunderstand me. Dear friends/family of mine are veterans. I was repeating a concern vocalized to me lately. That’s it.

@BrookeBCNN Sure… We heard you. Blame veterans “looking for combat.” Pathetic, and sad.
— Elefante (@Calle_Elefante) April 28, 2015
@BrookeBCNN hard to misunderstand that! veterans who have no stake in Baltimore coming in ready to do battle? You should be fired!

@BrookeBCNN you’ve made it pretty clear. We are dangerous, untrained, and racist. OOGABOOGA! Don’t expect us to fight for you.

@BrookeBCNN Do you realized how truly disciplined our military must be to follow the bizarre ROE from this admin? Blame the thugs.
— Sunniedlt (@Sunniedlt) April 28, 2015
@BrookeBCNN “Repeating a concern?” Really? Because I haven’t heard anyone say that, tweet that, or blame veterans in any article.
— Elefante (@Calle_Elefante) April 28, 2015
BS. Classic cop out @BrookeBCNN. My kid has concerns the Tooth Fairy stole his favorite hat, I don’t repeat in on TV @Sunniedlt @GayPatriot.

@BrookeBCNN Your knee jerk reaction to blame veterans is pathetic, predictable, and an example of why @CNN lacks credibility. #Baltimore

@BrookeBCNN liar. That was no misunderstanding. veterans protect us & you incite hatred of them? Shame on you & your ilk who fan the flames
— nauset (@nauset45) April 28, 2015
@BrookeBCNN Is that supposed to be an apology? If so, apology NOT accepted. Shame on you and shame on CNN for putting you on the air.
— Mr. Shepard (@JShep33) April 28, 2015
@BrookeBCNN So CNN talking points are to attack veterans?
— Mary Stewart (@Mswilcat) April 28, 2015
And this falls well short of an apology or retraction @BrookeBCNN. You should do both. @Calle_Elefante.
