NFL legend and former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis posted a passionate video to his Facebook page Tuesday calling for rioters to “go home.”
The former Super Bowl champion yelled throughout the video and told the rioters that the future of the city will not be dictated by them.
“No way, no way, no way this can happen in our city,” Lewis said. “Violence is not the answer. Violence has never been the answer.
Lewis lamented the violence that he says does nothing for Freddie Gray, the man whose death in police custody April 19 sparked the violence.
“Kids, go home! Stay home!” he said. “You don’t have no right to do what you’re doing to this city. Too many hard working people built this city. We put this city together. We put this city on our back.”
Lewis said he understands the calls for justice and change but said that doesn’t excuse the rioting he called “dead wrong.”
“We got young kids trying to tell us how they’re gonna dictate our city,” Lewis said. “That won’t happen!”
He said no matter what, he won’t allow the rioters to destroy the city.
“Whatever I got to do it will not happen on our clock!” he said.
