Dem. US congressman: We need to establish a ‘hostage czar’

Leave it to a Democrat to come up with a silly solution to President Obama‘s feckless foreign policy.

U.S. Rep. John Delaney of Maryland offered the perfect Democratic response to the president’s weak-kneed approach to dealing with evil in the world: hire a “hostage czar.”

No joke.

“What we really need is effectively a hostage czar to deal with the unfortunate growing numbers of these situations, someone who has the ability to cut across all the bureaucracy in government and think about everything that’s available and bring it to bear on getting these people home,” Delaney said Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Delaney was responding to Obama’s announcement Thursday that American hostage Warren Weinstein was killed in a drone strike near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. An Italian hostage was also killed in the attack.

Weinstein’s wife, who lives in Delaney’s district, was critical of the federal government, saying in a statement Thursday that America should “establish a coordinated and consistent approach to supporting hostages and their families.”

MSNBC! Mr. President, ‘I’ve carried your water, big time!’

“We are currently undergoing a comprehensive review of how the U.S. government addresses all of these issues related to hostage policies,” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said Thursday, adding that the review will not include U.S. policy against making concessions to terrorists, according to CNS News.

Hello?

You may recall that five top-level Taliban commanders were freed from captivity for an American soldier now facing life in prison for charges of desertion and misbehavior in front of the enemy.

That transaction, an obvious violation of the supposed no-negotiating-with-terrorists policy, established a premium rate for an American hostage.
