Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer offered a realistic and worrisome perspective about the Clinton Foundation scandal on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” Wednesday.
“The Clintons are clever. They cover their tracks,” Krauthammer told host Bill O’Reilly.
The two were discussing the highly anticipated and already controversial book titled, “Clinton Cash.” In it, author Peter Schweizer alleges Clinton amassed huge sums of money from foreign governments in exchange for special favors during her tenure as secretary of state.
O’Reilly says the amount of money collected is “staggering.” From 2001 to 2014, O’Reilly reported the Clinton Foundation took in about $2 billion.
“According to public records, [The Clinton Foundation] spends about 88 percent of that on projects to improve peoples’ lives,” O’Reilly said.
The remaining part of $2 billion dollars – which is substantial to say the least – is apparently left for various expenditures.
“From 2002 to 2013, the Clinton Foundation spent about $70 million in travel expenses alone,” O’Reilly said.
O’Reilly ran off a litany of incriminating dealings between Clinton, big business, and foreign nations and asked, “What am I supposed to think here Charles?”
Krauthammer stated even with large money trails, criminal allegations against Clinton will be extremely difficult to prove. He argued the controversy needs to be looked at as a moral corruption rather than a legal corruption.
“There may not be enough evidence or explicit evidence of a criminal quid pro quo, but this is simply shady,” Krauthammer said.
A frustrated O’Reilly fired back, “But this is big!”
Krauthammer accused the Clinton’s of being experts at “walking the line” and covering their tracks.
“It’s big and it’s bad, but there’s one problem for those of us who are concerned about it,” Krauthammer said.
“She burned the tapes, she eliminated the emails.”
Unless someone can get evidence off of the servers Krauthammer said, “The evidence is gone.”
