An invitation called a “party invite from hell” lived up to its reputation by the restrictions two parents placed on their son’s first-birthday party.
The invitation, shared Friday on the social media site, Reddit, is a clear example of the tendency toward excess for a lucky few in America.
Not only did the parents ask for gifts for their child, but they were specific about who should give, what they should bring — and even how many gifts they should buy, according to Fox News.
“We’re asking for gifts only from grandparents and the direct aunt/uncle for [retracted]’s birthday party, and similar to Christmas, would like to restrict it to 2 items total per household,” the invite said, then listed in detail the gifts deemed acceptable.
And to make sure guests fully understood the restrictions, they were instructed to include a receipt so the birthday boy’s parents could get full cash value for the gift if they returned it — thank you very much!

“If you choose to get [our son] something that isn’t on this list, anytime regardless of birthdays or holidays, please be sure to always include a receipt going forward,” the invite said. “When we return items without receipts, we only get about 50 percent of the value, so it’s like throwing away money if you don’t include a receipt with the gifts.”
But the audacity didn’t stop there.
“Please let us know if you have any questions about any items not on this list that you are considering purchasing and we can let you know if we already have it or if it is in storage waiting for him,” the parents wrote.
Poor child.
