An 11-year-old Kansas student a little too well informed on the benefits of marijuana aroused the suspicions of authorities, who then raided his home.
Now, the state is even threatening his mother with a loss of custody.
Shona Banda, identified as a “cannabis oil activist” by investigative journalist Ben Swann, who first reported on the incident, returned home to find police at her door last month after her son disputed anti-marijuana information presented during a drug education class at his school.
The student was persuasive enough in his defense of pot that the school contacted the child protection agency, which then called police, The Washington Post reported.
When Banda pulled into her driveway to find police all around her house, she decided to video the encounter.
A police officer asked for permission to search the home, which Banda denied. This resulted in a three hour standoff while a search warrant was obtained — with Banda not being allowed to enter her home.
“You are not free to enter the residence,” a police sergeant tells her.

Banda was told by authorities that they were there to check on the “well-being of her child.”
After obtaining a search warrant, the home was searched and police found 2 ounces of cannabis oil, which Bandas said she uses for medicinal purposes to treat her Crohn’s disease.
Banda used to live in Colorado, where marijuana is legal, but it remains illegal in Kansas where she now lives. She has yet to be charged with a crime, but she said her husband — the couple is separated — has been granted temporary custody of the child.
