Actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s publicized failed attempt at compassion just keeps getting more pathetic by the minute.
In a lame attempt to identify with the downtrodden, Paltrow posted a tweet last Thursday of what $29 worth of food stamps can buy at the grocery store – only “normal people” wouldn’t buy the things she picked and certainly wouldn’t hobnob at a fancy gala event after making the paltry purchase, but she did.

According to the New York Post, Paltrow quickly ditched the food stamps to dine at an $85 per person Beverly Hills gourmet barbecue hosted by soccer great David and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham shortly after posting the tweet.
Sources told the Post they were “shocked” to see Paltrow at the swanky affair so soon after getting off food stamps.
Her rep tried to explain it away by saying, “She already finished the challenge last week but only got around to posting the photo of the groceries [Thursday].”
Paltrow’s seemingly disingenuous food challenge prompted a swift response from both sides of the political aisle and, at least for a moment, “united” conservative firebrand Michelle Malkin and a left-wing writer at the liberal publication Jezebel.

“Everyone on the planet except for rail-thin Paltrow seems to have understood the hilarity of Hollywood’s most famous detox dieter – whose calorie intake rivals an earthworm’s – pretending to have the sads over her SNAP menu,” Malkin wrote in a blog post.
Julianne Escobedo Shepherd from Jezebel agreed.
“[Malkin’s] point is clear and concise and something I totally agree with, even if I do still believe she is totes the devs. We have reached a point of mutual understanding. Gwyneth Paltrow is the great unifier. Our shared disdain for her bullshit will heal the world,” Shepherd wrote.
So there is hope for us after all.
And just to be fair, the Post did note that not one person saw a piece of food pass Paltrow’s lips during the gala event.
