Signs have been popping up all over New York City declaring and end to catcalling — because nothing irritates a liberal more than free speech they don’t agree with.
In this case, though, the signs are illegal.
According to the New York Daily News, the “No Catcall Zone” signs are part of an effort by the non-profit group “Feminist Apparel” to bring attention to the “plight” of women being “harassed” in time for “International Anti-Street Harassment Week” (yes this is a thing).

“We hope to get at least one sign up in each borough by the end of the week as street harassment and catcalling is obviously a universal issue not contained to any one neighborhood,” the group said in a statement.

Hanging the signs is part of a collaborative effort with Philadelphia feminist collective “Pussy Division.”
The signs, which look like actual city issued street signs, were funded by T-Shirt sales from the Feminist Apparel website, reported the News.
“We just thought legitimate looking anti-catcalling street signs out on the streets where street harassment occurs would be a cool, visual way to capture people’s attention towards the issue,” the group said.
The city’s Transportation Department doesn’t think they’re so cool, though, and has been removing the official-looking signs wherever they are found, according to the Daily News.
“While we understand the concept of this campaign, these signs were placed without permission,” the department said, according to the Daily News.

International Anti-Street Harassment Week began April 12 and lasts through April 18.
