Zubeidat Tsarnaev, mother of the two brothers who set off bombs during a deadly attack at the Boston Marathon, lashed out at Americans and allegedly blamed the U.S. moments after her son, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was found guilty on 30 counts Wednesday.
Tsarnaev’s angry outburst began with a purported text she sent to a Russian family friend that was claimed to be obtained by the technological website, Vocativ.
“I will never forget it. May god bless those who helped my son. The terrorists are the Americans and everyone knows it.
“My son is the best of the best.”
Her sons, by all practical accounts, had a nice life in America. They received American educations, had American friends, and her son Tamerlan, who was shot and killed by police after the bombing, even received American welfare.
But in Tsarnaev’s twisted view, she and her family are the victims. She said at a press conference Wednesday that they would have been better off living alone somewhere “way up in the village” as she put it.
She questioned why she ever came to America.
“I thought America is going to protect us, our kids, it’s gonna be safe.”
Through tears, she continued to maintain that her sons weren’t involved in the bombing attack.
Tsarnaev’s display at the press conference was totally tame compared to another message she allegedly sent to Vocativ on Wednesday:
“[THE US] WILL PAY FOR MY SONS AND THE SONS OF ISLAM, PERMANENTLY!!!
“THE TEARS OF THEIR MOTHERS WILL BE FUEL FOR THEM IN HELL…
“MY SONS ARE INNOCENT, AS INNOCENT AS ALL THOSE WHO ARE BEING KILLED BY YOUR COUNTRY
“TODAY THEY ARE KILLING MUSLIMS, AND TOMORROW WILL COME YOUR TURN AND HE WHO DOUBTS THIS IS DEEPLY MISTAKEN!!!!
“HOW CAN A MOTHER FEEL WHOSE SON IS IN THE CLAWS OF A PREDATOR PREPARING TO TEAR HIM TO PIECES LIKE MEAT???”
It’s understandable for a grieving mother to deny a painful reality, but the ferocity of her conviction suggests she never had a grasp on reality in the first place.
