Mike Rowe, host of CNN’s “Somebody’s Gotta Do it,” is predicting big-time trouble for Americans if they don’t hoist themselves up by their bootstraps, and fast.
Rowe suggested that those who are living longer than their predecessors and believe they can retire at age 65 need a reality check, and told the Blaze, “The math is scary.”
He foresees widespread economic disaster if middle-aged and younger Americans don’t embrace the concept of work and accept that they will have to work for much longer than their parents.
“They are going to be retired for 40 years? There’s just no universe possible where you have enough money to live on if you’re an average Joe, 40 years after punching out,” he said.
“Part of the reason, I think, we’re facing such a mess is because people are truly still clinging to the idea that, ‘OK, I worked for 30 years and now I’m done.’ That’s crazy.”
Hannity guest Leo Terrell walks off set: ‘You quiet down … I’m done!’
Rowe has become a public promoter for hard work and rugged determination since he hosted the Discovery Channel’s well-known show “Dirty Jobs.”
He believes pop culture is partly to blame for the widespread perception that getting away with doing as little work as possible is somehow a noble endeavor.
“If the key to happiness is working less, we’re in trouble,” Rowe told the Blaze.
“It’s that simple. Work can’t be the enemy, unless it is, and if you make it the enemy – look out.”
Rowe said changing public attitude about work is a step in the right direction and continues to use his celebrity platform to shake up and wake up America.
