They love Lucy, but her hometown hates this statue of her

The residents of Lucille Ball’s hometown are seeing red, and it isn’t hair dye.

Citizens and officials of Celoron, N.Y., have wanted to fix a statue of the comedy queen that many deem ugly and scary since its inception in 2009, according to the New York Daily News. Now, one disgusted resident has launched a campaign to rid the town of the hideous structure.

“It looks like a monster,” the resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Daily News. “It not only does not look like Lucy, it doesn’t look human. And at nighttime, it’s even scarier.”

The unnamed man said he even created a Facebook page years ago that started getting more attention this week, “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue,” to garner support for the cause.

“Lucille Ball was one of the most talented, beautiful, funny women whoever [sic] appeared on television,” he said in a statement. “My only goal is to have a sculpture of her in [nearby] Jamestown which does her justice.”

Ball grew up in Jamestown before her family moved to Celoron when she was still young.

Celoron doesn’t want to use its own money to fix the statue, which is estimated to cost between $8,000 and $10,000, so the town is asking the artist, Dave Poulin, to change it for free, the Daily News reported.

If he doesn’t, he’s going to have some ’splainin’ to do.
