After President Obama prevented reporters from covering his meeting with Mormon leaders during a Salt Lake City visit this week, an organization representing reporters who cover the presidency is drafting a list of demands it wants the Obama White House to follow.

Conflicts have long been common between the press and U.S. presidents resisting pressure for increased access. Still, Obama’s closed-door meeting with Latter Day Saints Church leaders went above the norm and proved the final straw for the White House Correspondents’ Association, according to the Washington Examiner.
“The principle of the full [White House press] pool is so important to us that we’re working to address it in a set of written practices we’d like this and future administrations to follow,” association President Christi Parsons said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “We’ve been working on that document for almost a year now and will have more to say about it when we release it later this spring.”
President Obama has had a tense relationship with the media since the beginning of his administration, despite insisting in 2013 that “this is the most transparent administration in history,” according to The Hill.
“Even in what seems like a photo opportunity, it’s important for the writers, producers and radio reporters to see it, too,” Parsons told the Examiner. “That’s why the [association] is constantly advocating for greater news media access to the president, the White House and the people’s business.”
Before the Salt Lake City flap, the president kept reporters buttoned up in a maintenance shed while he played golf in Palm City, Fla.

And then there are more egregious examples of the Obama administration’s lack of respect for the media, like when the Department of Justice monitored phones belonging to Associated Press reporters and Fox News reporter James Rosen and Rosen’s parents.
The only thing transparent about this administration is the emperor’s clothes.
