While the Obama administration wastes precious time vainly trying to hammer out a nuclear arms deal with Iran, the name of a U.S. Marine veteran, held for years in an Iranian prison, keeps cropping up — but by neither the mainstream media nor Secretary of State John Kerry.
It’s former Marine, actor and talk show host Montel Williams who’s ringing the alarm.
This was the subject of Greta Van Susteren’s “Off the Record” comment Wednesday, when she urged the media to do its job and raise awareness for Amir Hekmati, an American of Iranian descent who went to Iran to visit his ailing grandmother.
That was more than three years ago.
Hekmati was imprisoned on trumped up espionage charges and kept in a 3 X 3 cell, the soles of his feet were whipped and he was fed narcotics to make him suffer the pains of withdrawal, according to Williams.
“We should all be standing by and with Montel, helping him,” Van Susteren said. “Where is everyone?”
The same Obama White House that traded five Taliban terrorists for one alleged Army deserter is no doubt that Hekmati has been all but forgotten by his countrymen in the mainstream media, since it keeps the spotlight away from just how unreliable a negotiating partner the United States has in Iran.
But, Van Susteren asked, where is the media’s sense of responsibility?
She also brought up the name of Pastor Saeed Abedini, who is in the same prison as Hekmati because of his Christian faith. She urged the media to continue reporting on the two lest they be forgotten.
“P.S., if I were in trouble, I would want Montel watching my back,” Van Susteren said. “How ’bout you?”
