U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez may be being forced to step down from a leadership role in the Foreign Relations Committee but he’s definitely not backing down to the Justice Department for indicting him.
“I am angry and ready to fight,” Sen. Menendez, D-N.J., said at a Wednesday press conference.
Many see the indictment of Menendez has all too convenient given the fact that he has criticized the Obama administration on the issues of negotiations with Iran and immigration.
Menendez said federal prosecutors were “tricked into starting this investigation … with false allegations from those who have a political motivation to silence me.”
“For nearly three years, I have lived under a Justice Department cloud. Today I am outraged that this cloud has not been lifted,” Menendez said.
The DOJ charged Menendez on 14 counts of corruption mainly surrounding a relationship he had with a Florida political donor. According to The Hill, the 68-page indictment charges that Menendez hid gifts he received from the donor, and didn’t report any he received between 2007 and 2012.
Menendez said he has “always conducted myself in accordance with the law,” and is confident he will be “vindicated.”
But some Tweeters aren’t so sure Menendez will get off that easy. They point out the glaring double-standard between the treatment of those who tow the Obama administration line – like Lois Lerner of the IRS who was conveniently exonerated by the DOJ – and those who don’t.
@thehill @Champergirl Big Dummy!! You should have known the Obama’s Mob was going to spank ya. Don’t cross Barry!!

@thehill I guess this is why Democrats don’t speak out, even when they know the administration is doing something that is bad for America.
