Dramatic dash-cam video: Hero cop collides with wrong-way driver

A dash-cam video and preliminary investigation are proving a quick-thinking police officer who risked his life in order stop a potential disaster on Interstate 65 in Tennessee.

The video revealed that on March 26, police Officer Cliff Thompson crashed head-on into a car that was headed southbound in the northbound lanes on I-65 about 3:30 am in Brentwood, Tenn.

Thompson was concerned the driver, Sandra Sharpe, 59, would hit other vehicles if she wasn’t stopped.

Before the crash, Thompson helped other officers stop northbound I-65 traffic and was able to maneuver Sharpe onto the shoulder but she wouldn’t stop, according to The Tennessean.

That’s when Thompson made the “split second decision” to hit Sharpe’s car and put an end to the dangerous incident.

Both Thompson and the Sharpe were taken to Williamson Medical Center and suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending, The Tennessean reported.
