Obama gets a ‘swift’ kick, while Taylor earns Fortune mag’s world leader status

Entertainer Taylor Swift came in at No. 6 on Fortune magazine’s list of the world’s greatest leaders — titans of industry, politicians, religious leaders, pop stars and others who made a difference in 2014.

But one prominent name is absent from the list — President Obama, the man holding the mantle of the leader of the free world.

Fortune Editor Alan Murray explained why the president didn’t make the cut this way:

I voted for Barack Obama in 2008 largely because of his call to unite blue states and red states behind a politics of hope. But it hasn’t happened. At home our politics are as divided — and our federal government is as dysfunctional — as they were when he took office.

By contrast, Swift “has crossed swords with Spotify, embraced corporate sponsorship, and moved to secure dozens of trademarks, […] plus she has proved shrewder at honing a brand in the social media age than virtually any other person or company,” Murray wrote(???).

The hosts on Fox News Channel’s “Outnumbered” had a little fun Friday with Obama’s top-50 no-show.

“He does the opposite of make money – he spends money,” Andrea Tantaros quipped.

“I love Taylor Swift,” U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told the “Outnumbered” panel. “She’s got a good message.”

Obama never lived up to his promise to bring the nation together, he said.
