When the race card fails, what better play is there than pulling the mom card?
After being caught red-handed lying about racial profiling, actress Taraji P. Henson apologized by saying she “overreacted” as a mother.
The star of Fox’s “Empire” told Uptown Magazine that her son, Marcel Johnson, was pulled over because of his race last year by the Glendale Police Department.
“My child has been racially profiled,” she said, adding that police “illegally” searched her son’s car.
After the interview ran, the Glendale Police Department released a dashcam video of the incident, dispelling Henson’s assertions.
In fact, the cop even gave her son a break, citing Johnson for possession of marijuana without a having a prescription with him and overlooking the moving violation that prompted the stop. The officer told Johnson he wanted to spare him points on his license, and also decided against charging him for felony possession of a bottle of Ritalin he found.
Still, Henson was critical of the officer, saying “it was bogus because they didn’t give him the ticket for what he was pulled over for.”
After the video’s release, the gig was up, and Hansen turned to social media to grovel, according to CNN.
“I would like to publicly apologize to the officer and the Glendale Police Department,” she wrote Friday on Instagram. “A mother’s job is not easy and neither is a police officer’s.”
Hansen then brought up the F-word — Ferguson, Mo.
“Sometimes as humans WE overreact without gathering all of the facts,” she said. “As a mother in this case I overreacted and for that I apologize.
Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son,” she wrote. “Love Tajari P. Henson.”
