While Robert Downey Jr. may not be an actual superhero what he did this week for one young fan could be described as both super and heroic.

The popular actor who stars as “Iron Man” in a series of Marvel produced films surprised 7-year-old Alex Pring who was born with a partially developed right arm, with a 3-D printed bionic “Iron Man” arm.
“Had the absolute privilege of presenting a brand spanking new 3D-printed bionic Iron Man arm to Alex, the most dapper 7-year-old I’ve ever met, Downey wrote on his Facebook page Friday.

“Special thanks to Albert Manero, OneNote, and #CollectiveProject for their work making artificial limbs like this more affordable for families with kids who want to show the playground how badass they are.”

The arm was created as part of a team effort between Microsoft One Note’s Collective Project and Limbitless Solutions, a group devoted to producing affordable 3-D printed limbs.
