President Obama is tirelessly working to dismantle the Second Amendment – and what better way to do that than to indoctrinate America’s young and impressionable with a lecture full of falsehoods.
Obama addressed a crowd at Benedict College in South Carolina on March 6 and called the Second Amendment “important” before listing reasons his audience should be inherently afraid of it.
“We have a long tradition of gun rights and gun ownership in this country. The Second Amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to mean the people have the right to bear arms. There are a lot of law-abiding, responsible gun owners who use it for protection or sport. They handle their weapons properly. There are traditions of families passing down [hunting] from father to son, or daughter … and that is important; that’s part of who we are. But…”
Obama then seamlessly launched into gun-control activist mode and continued his lecture.
“We also have to recognize is, is that our homicide rates are so much higher than other industrialized nations–by like a mile.
“And most of that is attributable to the easy, ready, availability of firearms, particularly handguns.”
A quick fact check will find that nothing could be further from the truth.
Unlike the heavily gun-controlled industrialized nation of Russia – that has a murder rate much higher than America’s – homicide rates have continued to decline in the U.S. while gun sales have simultaneously increased.
A Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy found, that the Russian murder rate was 20.52 per 100,000 people in 2002, according to Breitbart.com.
America’s murder rate, conversely, peaked in 1993 at 6.6 per 100,000 people and had fallen to 3.2 per 100,000 by 2011 – after privately owned guns increased from 192 million to 310 million in 2009.
Homicide rates have remained historically low despite the crocodile cries from gun control activists.
Which can only mean one thing – more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens means less murder.
